Laurel Martinez is a native of Houston,
Texas, where she plays music
with her father, anything from
bluegrass to folk to pop and rock.
Laurel received a Bachelor of Arts
degree in English from Roosevelt
University in May 2004, and let
all of her friends and relatives know
that the only thing she wanted for
graduation was a Weber mandolin.
The thought of that mandolin, and playing
on her old one, got her through her senior
thesis. She is looking forward to attending
graduate school for English and folklore
in Fall 2005 and knows that her Weber will
help her make it through that, too.
Laurel drew the design on the headstock,
the "pretty bird," to remind her of a line
from a Belle and Sebastian song, "Do
something pretty while you can." She
tries to do something pretty every day.
Practicing is always a good start.
Her favorite color is green, obviously,
and she calls her Weber Absaroka
"the best thing I've ever owned."
