Melanie started playing violin when she was 5. After about a year and a
half of Suzuki lessons with Marilyn Butler she joined the Fiddle Kids of
Worcester
under the direction of Myra McLeod.
Then one day Mel met her Uncle Joe's father-in-law and his Mandolin.
Darryl showed Melanie how playing Mandolin is easy if you can play Fiddle.
She got a starter mandolin the next Christmas and 11 months later that Dad
got her an upgrade and she was picking sweetly on a beautiful Weber
Gallatin.
Melanie is 9 yrs old now and is still playing with the Fiddle Kids of
Worcester, but she has added Mandolin picking to the repertoire of the
Fiddle Kids. She is studying Fiddle and Mandolin with Ed Trepanier
of the Fiddle
Center
as her instructor. She is frequently
invited to play at benefits for local charities with the The Bluegrass
Jammers
and as
long as she can bring that sweet sounding Weber Gallatin with her, she is
always glad to help out. Melanie has her own website now to help
her share her love of music and all things Melanie.
She attends monthly Boston Bluegrass Union Kids Jams, will be
attending the BBU's Joe Val Bluegrass Kids Academy
with her sister Marrisa next month. They will also be making their
second trip to Grey Fox Bluegrass
Academy for Kids in July.
